Just because the weather doesn’t always show it doesn’t mean spring isn’t right around the corner. We’ve had a long and punishing winter this year, so hopefully Mother Nature pays us back with a gorgeous, mild spring. And even if she doesn’t, you can still update the look and feel of your home to create an uplifting and energizing mood for spring. How can you make sure your home is in tip-top shape for spring? Here are a few of our suggestions for simple changes you can make around your home to prepare for the changing season.
This one might seem like a no-brainer to you, but a lot of people forget to do this once winter turns to spring. Repainting the rooms of your home, the exterior, and any outside spaces like porches or fences will do wonders to refresh your home for spring. Never underestimate the power of a fresh coat of paint!
Refinish & Replace Rugs
Because of the cold and icy, unpleasant weather conditions, most people spend a great deal more time inside during winter. This means your floors and rugs are experiencing increased foot traffic during the wintry months, and the wear and tear that comes with said traffic. Spring is the time to throw out all of those old area rugs that were stained with mud during fall and winter and buy a new set.
This is also a great time to have your hardwood floors re-sanded and refinished. The winter foot traffic would also take a toll on hardwood, and refinishing will take care of any dullness, damage, or wearing away.
Spring is also an excellent time to power wash any outdoor areas that have taken a beaten during severe winter weather. Power washing will get rid of debris, stains, or crud that has built up over the winter months. Here’s a short list of common places that need a power wash after winter: decks, siding, gutters, driveways, and front steps.
Check Your Windows
Chances are, if you have a problem with your windows you’ve noticed it already during the winter. Old windows with bad insulation mean that it will be harder to keep your home warm during the winter. Plus, your heating bill will be much more expensive. However, it’s a discomfort and a hassle to replace your windows during the colder months, so you should seize the chance to switch out your windows during spring.
This is also a great time to head to your local nursery or garden supply store and invest in some green plants for both the inside and outside of your home. It may be not quite warm enough to garden outside yet, but you can still buy seeds and supplies while you plan your outdoor garden. Adding green plans to your home will simultaneously energize the space and add a feeling of serenity.
These are just a few of many, many things you can do to update and refresh your home at the beginning of spring. Try any of our tips here and you’ll find yourself and your home ready to take on spring.
