While it’s not ideal that we’re stuck at home, you can use this time to be productive. Maybe there are some stubborn carpet stains you’ve been avoiding. Now is the time to tackle the stains! We put together a few of our carpet cleaning hacks recommended by our flooring pros here at Floor Coverings International Hillsborough.
One of the first rules about carpet cleaning is to avoid rubbing stains! The last thing you want to do is to dig the stain deeper into the carpet fiber. Dabbing and blotting stains is the best way to ensure that you’re not just making the problem worse. Another quick tip is to make sure you start at the outside of the stain and work your way in. This is done to avoid spreading the stain even further.
Common DIY Cleaners
Considering that you’re at home and are avoiding leaving the house, DIY home cleaners are going to be your best friend here. There are a few different options you can test out. They are:
- Baking Soda
These are the most common at-home solutions that you can try before moving onto something a little more industrial.
First, you’ll want to lightly sprinkle salt and baking soda on the stain until it is covered. You don’t need to go overboard here as you can always add more if necessary.
We recommend mixing hot water and either soap or vinegar into a spray bottle and spraying the offending stain. You don’t need to soak the carpet, you just need to spray enough to coat the area.
If you need to clean larger carpeted areas in your home these at-home hacks might not be for you. While these simple solutions might work for spot cleaning, we recommend going with something a little more powerful if you’ve got a large cleaning job ahead of you.
