While cleaning tile is a relatively easy and painless process, grout can be a different story. Our stone and tile flooring experts here at Floor Coverings International Hillsborough have a couple of tips that will help you tackle even the dirtiest grout. The first trick, a little elbow grease!
The main supplies you’ll need for basic grout cleaning are:
- Baking Soda
- Stiff-Bristled Brush
- Old Rags
So how exactly do you clean grout?
First things first, make sure that you clean the area as well as you can before you get started. You don’t want any additional dirt and grime getting in the way of your grout cleaning session.
Put some baking soda down along your grout lines and then spray with a half and half mix of warm water and vinegar. You’ll want to spray liberally and then let sit for at least 5 minutes to let your home cleaning mixture do the work.
The next step is scrubbing! Take your brush and tackle any and all grout in sight. The rags are so you can wipe away any excess liquid, dirt, and grime. You can use paper towels as well but rags are a little more environmentally friendly.
The final step is rinsing off the tile and grout with warm water and then drying! To avoid deep cleans in the future there are a few things you can do. Grout is a porous material that loves moisture. Make sure that you’re running the vent in your bathroom and cleaning up any standing water as soon as you can.
Consistent cleaning and maintenance will make your grout cleaning sessions easier. An additional step you cant take is sealing your grout! This will help with keeping dirt and grime at bay.
