Saxony Carpet in Princeton NJ

Whether or not you’ve heard of saxony carpet, you’ve probably seen it. Saxony carpet is often called “standard” carpet because it is neutral and low profile, and it’s a popular choice with Princeton homeowners. Saxony, a type of cut pile carpeting, consists of short, densely woven fibers. It is softer and more cushioned than Berber carpet, but also firmer and denser than frieze. Here, our Floor Coverings International® Hillsborough experts explain some of the advantages and disadvantages of saxony carpet:

Advantages of Saxony Carpet

  • Saxony carpet is soft and warm, so it is ideal for areas of your home where you want to walk and sit comfortably on the floor.
  • The thick weave of saxony carpet is both heat insulating and sound absorbing. Carpet can help save on energy costs since it traps heat inside your home. Saxony is also a great choice if you want to dampen sound.
  • Since saxony is very simple in construction, it can be made with a variety of fibers, like wool, nylon, olefin, and polyester.
  • Saxony is so basic in look and feel that it works in any home, regardless of décor. Saxony is available in a wide range of colors and patterns, so you are sure to find a style that suits your taste.

Disadvantages of Saxony Carpet

  • Unlike frieze or Berber, saxony is not a trackless carpet. This means that it will show footprints, vacuum marks, and other indentations. Saxony carpet can also be crushed by furniture and other heavy objects. If this is a concern, steer towards saxony carpets that are made of wool or nylon; these textiles are more resilient.
  • Like all carpet, saxony is susceptible to messes and stains. Also, because saxony is a soft, dense, low pile, it may not hide dirt as well as styles like frieze. If you want to keep your saxony carpet looking good, vacuum it on a regular basis. You can also have it professionally cleaned one or twice a year to remove stubborn stains and dirt.
