Ash Hardwood Flooring in Hillsborough

Ash hardwood floors are an excellent choice for homeowners in Hillsborough, Flemington, Princeton, and the surrounding areas who are looking for an attractive, durable, low-maintenance option.

Ash is naturally lighter in color with a medium to dark, open, and generally straight grain. If you’re looking to create an expansive, clean and airy look in a room, like what you would find in modern Scandinavian design, ash hardwood flooring could be a great choice for you. Ash is fairly easy to stain as well, should you want to switch to darker color later.

The density of wood is measured on the Janka Hardness Scale, where a higher score reflects superior density. With a score of 1320, ash sits almost in the middle of domestic species. To give some context, the densest domestic hardwood used in flooring, hickory, has a score of 1820, and cherry is one of the softest at 995. So, while some species might be a bit harder, ash is still a good choice for active homes with small children or pets.

Like most hardwood floors, those made from ash are relatively easy to keep up.

Daily Maintenance – Day to day maintenance typically consists of sweeping or vacuuming with a hardwood floor attachment.

Weekly Maintenance – At least once per week your routine should include mopping with a microfiber mop and a pH neutral cleaner, preferably one designed for use with hardwood floors. Contrary to popular belief, you do not need to wax your hardwood floor. In fact, doing so can result in a wax build up that may detract from your floor’s appearance.

Preventative Maintenance – Though ash is durable, it’s still a good idea to take preventative measures to avoid damage. A couple examples are using felt pads on the bottom of furniture and, of course, to clean up any spills immediately using a damp microfiber cloth.
